In the previous lesson we learned how to use the helping verb DO to make TAG QUESTIONS.
In this lesson we will learn how to use DO to avoid repeating the verb again.
Quick note:
In the simple present tense the verb DO has these two forms:
We will use these forms in our examples and exercises.
We use the helping verb DO to avoid repeating a verb that we already used.
Here is how we do it:
Subject + verb + the rest of the
sentence + DO
Example:
He works hard
and I do,
too.
Meaning: He works
hard and I work hard, too.
Here
are some more examples:
They ski
better than we do! |
|
He looks
stronger than I do. |
|
She works
in an office. |
|
Who gets
the book? |
|
Who buys
the car? |
|
Can I come in?
|
|
I hate
this game. |
|
You can also make it negative.
Here is how we do it:
Subject + verb + the rest of the
sentence + DON'T
(DO NOT)
Example:
She thinks I like
ice-cream, but I don't.
OR
She
thinks I like
ice-cream, but I do
not.
Meaning: She thinks I like ice-cream, but I don't like ice-cream.
Here are some more
examples:
I love
my car, but my girlfriend doesn't. |
|
He watches
TV every day, and I don't. |
|
They work
in an office. |
